Legends of the River Raisin blends historical fact, tribal legends and folklore, and modern-day fiction.
Ted Jarvis is a teenage descendant of the age-old Wyandotte tribe. He and his family are proud of their heritage. They try to keep tribal traditions alive, and enjoy living in an area of Southeastern Michigan that once was dotted with Wyandotte villages. It’s also the location of the War of 1812’s River Raisin National Battlefield, where their warrior ancestors fought to keep their tribal lands.
As a clan chief, Ted’s grandfather, Chief Billy Jarvis, strives to leave a legacy of tribal history and folklore to the next generations, passing along stories and legends from the long-ago past. Chief Billy’s tales are fascinating, spell-binding, and sometimes a bit too scary – the stuff of which nightmares are made. But Ted enjoys the stories, until the nightmarish legends start becoming all too real…
